Reflection on The Course Nursing Informatics
The course nursing informatics started of in the month of January
2019 I was excited for the new semester, I did not have a clue of what to
expect nor how much work it was going to be but I did know that I to part take
in this class and give my best as part of my requirements to obtain my degree.
The course started of very formal each member introduce themselves and greeted the other members of the class after which we were to form ourselves in groups of threes for the long ride ahead. The name informatics had me a bit skeptical as I am not the most computer savvy person but I was willing to give it a try as am always open to new adventures
The course taught me plenty about nursing informatics and how it can be applied within our daily practice as registered nurses. There was a total of 12 units for this course each one gave you a new insight into the world of computer informatics from the definition of computer informatics to consumer informatics to being able to create this e-portfolio.
This course broaden my vision toward the practice of nursing at present and in the future , I was made aware of the benefits of the electronic health record and the various security measures implemented to help protect individuals online health records, and even in the case of posting information on social media
Throughout the course each topic was informative and very details but the area that stood out to me the most was unit 7 I learnt so much about the implementation of HIPAA and PHI that I had no Knowledge of before. This unit gave me a greater appreciation for the use of electronic health record and made me more aware of my right in terms of what can be published medical online about an individual. I also enjoyed the unit on nursing and productivity software it was simple and yet effective it taught me a new skill that I can use in my future endeavors to help bring about changes for patients.
Overall the course was an interesting one however there were challenging time especially when there were two forums to be posted on the same day and not enough time within my daily schedule to do them. However I always found way to ensure it was complete or may I say God always made a way. There were times when I felt as though it’s all a bit too much but I was always taught to look for the good in very bad situation and I know taking this course was for my betterment so I had to keep on pushing. However I do wish in the next courses the instructor gives us the students at least enough time to get the work done as there were times when the assignments was posted too soon to the due dates.
The trying times did taught me to look deeper within myself and also made me aware of how much I can get accomplished under stressful situation this new found strength is one that can apply within my daily practice as a nurse as there are days when the job can be very stressful. At the end looking back on the course I must say it have taught me so much I started off not knowing much about nursing informatics nor computers and now am leaving being able to define nursing informatics, telehealth and hey am even a blogger thanks to this course nursing informatics.
